Bacterial strains and their use in sports1
Both strains included in N°1 SportBiotic were the subject of a randomized study conducted in 2016. The control group consisted of 15 healthy, training men. For 3 weeks, some of them took a placebo, and some used capsules with the strains (5 billion CFU of each strain). Then, the men performed intense exercises. Both before and after the exercises, parameters such as isometric strength, degree of muscle pain, range of motion, or level of interleukin 6 (a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced during physical exercise).
Taking the strains led to lower levels of interleukin 6. Supplementation probably also influenced the average peak strength over time after exercise, as well as the range of motion. The data suggests that the strains may alleviate performance drops and muscle tension after intense, muscle-damaging exercise.
